Our Story
From mission-driven design to forensic engineering practice
ZSS Forensics grew from a broader commitment to advancing better, more resilient buildings through disciplined engineering and a deep understanding of failure mechanisms.
Founding Vision
Zero Sum Structures began with an energy-performance mission
Zero Sum Structures, LLC was founded on a simple but ambitious mission: to advance the design and construction of energy-neutral homes. At its core, the company is driven by the belief that the built environment should not only meet today's needs, but do so efficiently, sustainably, and with long-term performance in mind.
This vision centers on creating structures that balance energy consumption with production, while maintaining durability and resilience in the face of real-world conditions.
Forensics Division
ZSS Forensics was built to study failure and improve future construction
From this mission, ZSS Forensics was born. As the forensic engineering division of Zero Sum Structures, ZSS Forensics focuses on the evaluation of building failures and the performance of structural and building envelope systems.
By investigating how and why buildings and their components fail, whether due to environmental loads, construction defects, or material degradation, the firm contributes to a deeper understanding of failure mechanisms. This knowledge is critical to advancing industry standards and ultimately improving the efficiency, durability, and longevity of future construction.
Leadership
Jeremy D. Brown brings technical depth and disciplined analysis to every assignment
ZSS Forensics is led by Jeremy D. Brown, PE, CGC, DFE, a board-certified forensic engineer, licensed professional engineer, and general contractor with extensive experience in structural and forensic engineering.
Jeremy has conducted more than 750 forensic investigations involving storm damage, structural failures, and construction defects across residential and commercial properties. His work as an expert witness, combined with his background as a United States Air Force veteran, brings a disciplined, analytical approach to every investigation, ensuring that each failure studied contributes to building a stronger, more resilient future.
